Stanich’s

Walking in the front door of Stanich’s is like walking into a time warp. The entire place is filled with vintage sports pennants, college and professional, covering every wood-paneled wall. That’s fine by me, but Pittsburgh was only represented with a single pennant… come on! Nevertheless, it was cool to see pennants for teams that don’t exist anymore such as the Houston Oilers, Baltimore Colts, Los Angeles Rams, etc. The place seems like nothing has been renovated or changed since it was first opened. This means, of course, they do not accept credit cards, so make sure you bring cash with you if you plan on eating here.
The menu at Stanich’s is simple. So simple we initially thought it was just a menu showcasing their daily/weekly specials. I think someone actually said “…that’s it?” after looking at it.
I didn’t order the self-proclaimed World’s Greatest because I am just not generally into the “tons of shit thrown on a bun” type burgers. I like standard, traditional cheeseburgers. So that’s what I went with. We also ordered a basket of french fries to share, as our waitress advised, and a pitcher of PBR. Here’s an action shot of the behind-the-counter scene:
After a very short wait, our orders arrived. I’ll first say this, it really took a lot out of me to pause for a moment to take this photo before eating it. Immediately I wished I had ordered two burgers instead of one, as it is just THAT good.

Honestly, everything on this burger is perfect. The bun is exactly what it should be, lightly toasted and buttered. It is perfectly sized in proportion to the burger and toppings. The beef patties are very thin, but extremely juicy without feeling greasy. They’re cooked medium-well with a nice brown char on the outside and a thin layer of pink in the middle. The lettuce and tomatoes were nice and crisp, adding wonderful texture to each bite. In conclusion, shit’s good.
Burger Ratings:
Burger: 9
Fuck, this burger is good. Definitely one of my top 5 favorite burgers.
Side: 7
The french fries were great. Oily, skin-on fries fried golden brown. The basket is large enough to easily feed four hungry people. They aren’t crisp, but they’re very good.
Environment: 7
Stanich’s interior is definitely unique. There aren’t many places still around that are like it. I’ll have to remember to bring a Steelers pennant with me the next time I’m in Portland.
Value: 7
Everything is reasonably priced. They could probably charge more given just how good their burgers are, but they don’t. You can get an amazing burger, great fries, and a beer for under $10. Can’t really beat that.
A+++ BURGER FAST SERVICE WILL EAT AGAIN!!!1
