Goodfoot Pub & Lounge

Goodfoot is a bar/music venue/restaurant/art gallery (so they claim) located in SE Portland at Stark and 29th.  The menu includes a nice variety of items, including wraps, burritos, sandwiches, salads, and most importantly.. a burger. The burger is served on a Grand Central bun with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickle on the side. They come with chips by default, but you could substitute for french fries for $1, or a side salad for $1.50.  I went with the burger with cheddar cheese and french fries. The menu description:

Black Angus Hamburger $5.50
1/3 Lb all-natural Black Angus beef patties served with roasted garlic aioli. Build your own burger: Add cheddar cheese, pepperjack cheese, bacon, egg for 50 cents each

When I asked how they cook their burgers, they said “very well-done.” I then asked if I could possibly get it cooked medium, and but just said they’d make sure it wasn’t burnt. At this point I immediately lowered my expectations, ordered a few beers and took a seat in the back.  The wait was about 15 minutes, but I didn’t mind.

The burger was exceptional as far as traditional bar-food goes. Due to the fact they only keep one cook on staff, they serve the burgers well-done. This is a shame because I think this burger could be really fucking good if they didn’t cook the shit out of it, but then again it is a bar, so one can’t be too picky.

Burger Ratings:

Burger:  7

I was totally surprised at how good this burger is. The bun was absolutely perfect, the beef was overcooked but still juicy, and the cheese was generous and delicious. Plus, I always like having a full pickle spear served on the side. Great burger for the price.

Side: 8

The french fries are really good. They’re my favorite kind – fresh cut, skin-on, and crispy and delicious. I was actually considering ordering an extra side of them. I am craving them right now as I am typing this.

Environment: 5

Goodfoot is essentially one huge room with two pool tables in the center, the bar to the right, and seating along the left wall and rear. You place your order at the bar, let the bartender know where you’re sitting, and the cook brings out your food to you himself. I didn’t care for the setup, but again, it is a bar.. so I can’t really bitch much.

Value: 9

This fucking burger is five fucking dollars and fifty fucking cents. $5.50! Well, if you add cheese and fries it is $7.. but it is still a great value for how good it is. Why am I not eating here on a nightly basis?
