Hopworks Urban Brewery Portland’s first Eco-Brewpub, offering “all organic handcrafted beers, fresh local ingredients, and a sustainable building with a relaxed and casual atmosphere.”  The place is pretty big and has parking for seventy cars, eight motorcycles and up to fifty bikes – which is a good call since every time I drive past, the place seems absolutely packed. There are 4 areas within HUB – the bar area (with bicycle frames strung across the bar itself), a family-friendly section with play area (A+ for keeping screaming obnoxious children out of my sight), a banquent mezzanine, and an outdoor beer-garden. They have a nice selection of beer on tap, and a very extensive menu. I can probably hype this up more, but all I really care about is the cheeseburger:

Brewers Burger – 1/2 Pound beef patty. Served on a Tillamook cheddar cheese & onion bun w/ lettuce, tomato, red onion & mayonnaise.
The Standard $8.75
Tillamook cheddar, provolone, or Rogue River blue cheese $9.50
ESBBQ, bacon & Tillamook cheddar $10.75
Add bacon or avocado $1.50

They are are served with “your choice of house made potato chips, organic thick-cut french fries, house salad or soup of your choice.” I ordered a burger with cheddar cooked Medium with a side of “thick-cut french fries.” I am adding quotes around this horseshit because check out what HUB really means by that:

..and since it was so dim, here’s a more visible shot with the flash on:

Hopworks 2

I don’t know what fucking world the people at HUB are living in, but in my world, those things are called POTATO WEDGES. Maybe even steak fries, depending on your definition, but in no way can those ever be considered “THICK-CUT FRENCH FRIES”. This is probably not something worth getting mad about, but I am. I really am.

Burger Ratings:

Burger: 8

The burger at HUB is really good. It is definitely on the more expensive-side, but it’s really good. I’m going to have to check out the BBQ/Cheddar burger next and report back. Delicious!

Side: 3

Listen up, Hopworks. POTATO WEDGES ≠ FRENCH FRIES. When I ordered french fries, I was expecting french fries to be on my plate. I fucking hate potato wedges and had I known that I would have ordered something else. They weren’t even that good, and I maybe had a total of 8 pieces total. Lame.

Environment: 9

I was seated in the bar section, which has large HDTV’s scattered throughout the area. It was pretty nice to be able to watch football in the background (and ignore your company) during dinner. The place just has a great ambiance overall.

Value: 4

My cheeseburger and “fries” (I just got mad again) came in at $9.50. This is a bit high in my book, but the burger is so good I am willing to overlook it. I’ll probably be eating here on a regular basis.
