As their website states, Fenouil is an urban brasserie that “combines the best of classic French cuisine with the inventive use of flavors and ingredients from nearby European countries.”  I have heard they have a pretty amazing happy hour, so I decided to try it out for myself. Their happy hour menu offers more variety than most, and at 50% of the normal menu price.  The menu listing for the burger:

Hamburger Parisien – gruyere cheese. caramelized onions. tomatoes. dijon aioli. pommes frites or salad
with Carlton Farms bacon 14.

I ordered it as is with fries.  I ordered some cheap drinks and eagerly anticipated the arrival of my burger.

Here’s a shitty photo that does not, in any way, do this burger justice.

And here is an even shittier photo. I really need to get a camera that has more settings than just “yellow” or “white and blurry” to properly capture cheeseburgers. (And yes that is a bowl of mayo)

Burger Ratings:

Burger: 8

This burger is delicious.  At first, it seems as if the bun is much too large and will pose a problem, but it is the total opposite. It’s nice and spongy and actually stays together despite vast amounts of burger juices. I am really not one for onions in any form, but the caramelized onions added nice texture and flavor that I was not expecting.

Side: 8

The french fries here were very good. My only complaint would be that they were overly salty, but it really wasn’t much of a problem. They were very thin and very crispy, making for an excellent fry.

Environment: 8

The environment of Fenouil is gorgeous. It feels very comfortable and bright and clean. There is a large dining area, a bar area, outdoor seating, and additional seating on the second floor.

Value: 9

The happy hour price of the burger and fries is $6.50, and the regular price is $13. Happy hour occurs pretty frequently, (daily from 4:30-6:30 pm, and  9-close, and 2pm-close Sunday) so there’s no reason to pay full price for it, unless you’re stopping by for lunch. $6.50 for a burger and fries of this quality is insane, especially so since there is no drink minimum.

Fenouil is a great place for happy hour! I had an amazing chocolate martini! The atmosphere is warm and conducive for conversation so it would be a excellent place to go with friends. I cannot wait to try out the actual dining experience, but would be more than pleased to go back for happy hour. The prices are great for the quality of the product. I have no complaints.
