Little Big Burger is an upscale burger joint in Portland, OR opened by Micah Camden (owner of Yakuza Lounge, Beast, and D.O.C) and is located between NW Couch and NW Davis.

The menu is limited to burgers & fries, a la In-N-Out, but also offers floats, beer, and a veggie burger option.  The burger description:

lbb burgers are made with a 1/4 lb. of cascade natural beef, local brioche buns, local cheeses, organic veggies, and camden’s catsup.

A cheeseburger will run you $3.75, with choices of cheeses being Cheddar, Chevre, Swiss, or Bleu.  You order at the counter, take note of your number on the receipt, and take a seat.  For seating, there is a long counter that faces the grill. It’s nice to pass the wait time by watching the cooks prepare your burger right in front of you.  The view from the counter:

Burger prep:

I came here during lunch on a weekday, and the place was packed. I was pretty impressed with how quickly my order arrived, which may have only taken about 5 minutes total. The burger with Chevre:

And a full on shot with the fries:

I guess I should also mention the unique condiment aspect of this place.  The ketchup, mustard, and fry sauce is all made by Camden, with all natural ingredients. The ketchup (I am not spelling it “Catsup” btw) is made with honey, tomato paste, champagne vinegar, hemp seed, spices, and Sriracha sauce.  The mustard is similar to a mild honey mustard, and the fry sauce is a mix of Cameden’s ketchup and mayonnaise. It’s delicious.

Burger Ratings:

Burger: 9

These burgers are awesome. They are a little too large to be considered a slider, but they definitely are not filling enough to be considered a regular burger. The beef is cooked to medium unless specified, and the pickles, bun, and toppings are absolutely delicious. The only drawback was the Chevre, as I didn’t receive much of it on my burger and wished I had just ordered Cheddar instead. What-evre.

Side: 8

The fries here are great, but I am deducting points for the use of truffle oil. I am 100% against the over-fancification of burgers and fries and especially so when you are frying up my french fries in a fungi-based oil. I am very much looking forward to the end of the trend of “upscale” burgers and fries.

Environment: 7

Eating here during lunch is pretty hellish, as the space is tight and you will be bumped into a million times. There’s a bright graphic mural on the wall, and the decor consists of items they use or sell (beer cans, ketchup bottles, storage containers, etc) and the place is kept very clean. It’s nice, but the space could be improved to better serve the customer and not the overall aesthetic.

Value: 7

The value is pretty good. A cheeseburger is $3.75, a large portion of fries is $2.75, and an insanely delicious root beer (or whatever other flavor) float is $3.50.
