First thing’s first:  this place has no connection with the “other” Rogue known around Portland

Intro, courtesy of their comic sans/.gif-filled websiteGreat food, microbrews, and music are waiting for you in historic downtown North Plains, just 19 miles west of Portland, Oregon. We use natural, fresh and local produce and meat in our food, and our rotating micro-brews can’t be beat. On Fridays, you’ll find some of Portland’s best musical talent playing in our intimate setting.

They have a full page of their menu dedicated to burgers, which all include chips and a pickle by default.  You can upgrade your side to french fries or onion rings for an additional fee.  I ordered the following:

The Rogue Cheeseburger – A 1/3 lb. ground beef patty on a grilled bun with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and mayonnaise.  $5.50

The wait was really short, which was great because I was absolutely starving.  Great timing, Rogue!

And an alternate image for all those who are into grainy low-definition color-corrected burger photos:

For what it is, and where this place is located, it really isn’t that bad.  In fact, I’d probably rather come here than that other place of the same name that may or may not offer chain restaurant-style food for insanely inflated prices.

Burger Ratings:

Burger: 5

The burger here tastes like virtually every single burger I have eaten at a bar, ever.  If Doritos removed the artificial ketchup flavoring from from these things (what a concept, btw)- this flavor would be totally on point:

Side: 7

I was really into the idea of getting chips with my burger, so I went with the default side choice.  These were probably off-brand Ruffles, but I ate them all.  I hadn’t had this style of a potato chip in years, and reminisced about that one time they used Olestra in potato chips.  For that reason alone – 7!

Environment: 7

Standard dive bar environment, complete with 1 cook and 1 bartender/server for the entire building.  Into it.

Value: 6

A cheeseburger with chips runs $5.50.  Adding fries is an additional $1.50, and onion rings are an additional $2.00.  That is an okay value, I guess?
